Platinumlist CEO Cosmin Ivan on Ed Sheeran, Setbacks & Family
Cosmin Ivan built Platinumlist from a guest-list idea for Dubai parties into the Middle East's #1 ticketing platform — powering 100,000+ events and counting.
From Dubai Guest Lists to 100,000 Events: The Platinumlist Story
When Cosmin Ivan talks about Platinumlist, he doesn't reach for grand declarations. He lets the numbers do it. Over 100,000 events powered across the Middle East. A platform that started as a modest idea for exclusive Dubai parties and grew into the region's dominant event and ticketing ecosystem — trusted by global artists, promoters, and millions of fans.
We sat down with Cosmin on Dubai Stars to hear how it actually happened.
A Small Idea With a Long Runway
Platinumlist's origin story is a reminder that the biggest platforms rarely start with a master plan. The early version was simple: a digital guest list for the kind of high-end Dubai nightlife events that ran on paper lists and phone calls. The inefficiency was obvious to anyone paying attention — and Cosmin was paying attention.
What followed was years of iteration, relationship-building, and a gradual expansion from nightlife into concerts, sports, festivals, and beyond. Today, Platinumlist isn't just a ticketing site. It's the infrastructure layer underneath much of the region's live entertainment industry.
Handling the Ed Sheeran Scale
Few tests reveal an operation's maturity like a stadium-level concert from a global superstar. The Ed Sheeran show in Dubai was exactly that kind of test — massive demand, intense logistics, and zero room for error. Cosmin walked us through what it takes to handle that scale: the coordination with venue operators, the traffic management on the platform during on-sale surges, and the expectations that come with an artist whose fanbase is genuinely global.
It's the kind of event that either exposes your weaknesses or validates years of infrastructure investment. For Platinumlist, it was the latter.
On Competition — and the Lack of It
Cosmin is measured when the topic of competitors comes up, but he's also clear-eyed.
We have our competitors in some areas, but they are nowhere to be seen.
He's quick to add nuance — Platinumlist actively works alongside some of those players in certain markets, choosing collaboration where it makes sense. But on the core question of who owns the Middle East ticketing space, he doesn't hedge. The platform's footprint, its relationships, and its decade-plus of regional knowledge are not easily replicated.
Setbacks Are Part of the Build
One of the more honest stretches of our conversation was about failure. Cosmin didn't shy away from the setbacks — the moments where expansion moved too fast, where a product decision didn't land, or where the business had to course-correct. His take is straightforward: setbacks aren't detours from the story, they are the story. The resilience that Platinumlist now operates with was earned, not assumed.
It's a perspective that resonates with anyone who has tried to build something durable in a market as fast-moving as Dubai's entertainment scene.
Family as a Foundation
Away from the platform metrics, Cosmin spoke about what keeps him grounded — his family. For a CEO running an operation at this scale, the conversation around work-life balance often feels performative. Cosmin's version felt different. Family isn't a counterweight to ambition for him; it's part of how he defines what success is supposed to look like.
You're too modest and you're too nice.
That's what we told him. He didn't disagree — but he also didn't change his tone.
Why Platinumlist's Position Is Hard to Displace
Building the leading ticketing platform in any market requires more than technology. It requires trust — from artists' management teams, from venue operators, from the fans who hand over their money months before an event and need to know their tickets will work on the night. Platinumlist has spent over a decade accumulating that trust in a region where live entertainment has gone from a niche offering to a genuine economic force.
The platform's strength isn't just the number of events it has processed. It's the network of relationships underneath those numbers.
